Rhode Island will allow the creation of up to three compassion centers statewide to dispense medical marijuana after both chambers voted to override the governor’s veto of legislation legalizing them. The legislation (2009-H 5359A, 2009-S 0185aa), sponsored by Rep. Thomas C. Slater (D-Dist. 10, Providence) and Sen. Rhoda E. Perry (D-Dist. 3, Providence), took effect immediately, although the Department of Health will have to issue regulations before any centers are licensed.
