The video of the 10/29/06 Senate candidate debate is no longer available at http://www.turnto10.com/politics/10191114/detail.html#

but here are the moderator's question and the candidates' responses:

Bill Rappleye, NBC 10 News: “I’m interested in what you would tell your children about drug use, and also, yes or no, should marijuana be legalized generally?”

Sheldon Whitehouse: “Let me start with the ‘should marijuana be legalized.’  I think when prescribed by a physician, yes, it should be legal, because I believe it has proven itself to be useful for people who have certain types of conditions, as a treatment, to help deal with sleep, with appetite, and with other issues.”

Lincoln Chafee:  “I agree with the same medical marijuana aspect of it.”
