1. MEDICAL MARIJUANA COMPASSION CENTER BILL HEARING ON TUES
  • This Tuesday 4/8, the House of Representatives bill H7888 will be heard in the Health, Education, & Welfare committee. Please attend to support testifying patients! State House room 135, ~4:30pm, contact us online or call 861-1601 for more details.
  • Last Wednesday 4/2, S2693, which would regulate distribution of medical marijuana by allowing a non-profit Compassion Center to distribute medical marijuana to Rhode Island's licensed patients, was heard in the Senate Health & Human Services committee. Thanks to those who testified!
2. MMJ IN THE NEWS: PROJO, WRNI, CHANNEL 10, I.M. NEWS
  • In a great front-page story this Thursday, "Bill would create marijuana dispensaries," the Providence Journal reported favorably on Wednesday's Compassion Center hearing.
  • On Wednesday just before the S2693 hearing, WRNI RI Public Radio began airing these two short stories on the bill.
  • Our NBC affiliate, Channel 10 WJAR, covered the Compassion Center bill in its 6pm and 11pm evening news broadcasts; read an abridged transcript here.
  • A recent issue of the medical journal Internal Medicine News has a lead article on the American College of Physicians' medical marijuana endorsement, featuring RI's Dr. Jody Rich!
3. NEW MMJ ENDORSEMENTS, STATE CHURCHES AND PUBLIC DEFENDER
  • The Rhode Island State Council of Churches has recently endorsed medical marijuana and RIPAC's mission for a Compassion Center.
  • The Rhode Island Office of the Public Defender joins them as the newest endorser of the Compassion Center bill.
4. CHECK OUT NEW ASA PATIENT VIDEOS, AND PATIENT WEBSITE
  • Americans for Safe Access has released new video testimonials from medical marijuana patients. Watch these compelling videos online here.
  • Patients should also visit patientslikeme.com, a new online community cross-indexing medical conditions and their symptoms with treatments--including marijuana.
5. APRIL COMMUNITY MEETING AND CARDHOLDER MEETING
  • RIPAC's next open Community Meeting for patients, caregivers, advocates, and anyone else interested in learning more about medical marijuana will be 6:30pm, Tuesday, April 15, at the South Providence Public Library (441 Prairie Avenue, Providence). Contact RIPAC for more information.
  • Our next Cardholder Meeting, only for licensed patients and caregivers in the RI Medical Marijuana Program, will be 7pm, Tuesday, April 29. If you are a licensed patient or caregiver and would like to attend, contact RIPAC here for more details.
6. COMPASSION CENTER IN RHODE ISLAND? WE NEED MONTHLY DONORS!
  • RIPAC believes that patients should have a regulated way to get their medical marijuana. Now that S2693 has been heard, we'll be supporting this bill to create a Compassion Center, but we need your help!
  • Please consider becoming a monthly sustainer of RIPAC by signing up for monthly tax-deductible donations to support our efforts and programs; learn how at RIpatients.org/donate or by calling 401-861-1601.
Have a healthy day,
