1. SENATE OVERRIDES GOVERNOR'S VETO, ON TO HOUSE OF REPS
  • Today, June 20, the Senate overrode Governor Carcieri's June 4 veto of the Medical Marijuana Act, by a vote of 29-4!
  • Now the House must override the veto by June 30 to pass the Act into permanent law. Assuming all goes according to plan, RIPAC will send out a special victory email next week when this happens.
2. RIPAC FUNDRAISER PARTY: PLEASE HELP US CELEBRATE!
3. MEDICAL MARIJUANA COMES CLOSE IN NEW YORK, CONNECTICUT
  • Last week the New York Assembly passed a medical marijuana bill and Governor Eliot Spitzer said he'd likely support it.  This Monday, a bill was introduced in the New York Senate, but no vote has been scheduled; click here to learn more about what you can do.
  • Yesterday Governor Jodi Rell of Connecticut vetoed the CT medical marijuana bill, killing it for this year.  To learn more, click here; please write to Gov. Rell's spokesman at [email protected] to ask for her support for next year.
4. RIPAC IN HIGH TIMES "FREEDOM FIGHTER" COLUMN
  • RIPAC Executive Director Jesse Stout is High Times magazine's "Freedom Fighter of the Month" for August 2007.
  • Click here to read the short article.
5. PATIENT/CAREGIVER AFFINITY GROUP IS MEETING
  • RIPAC regularly hosts a group of medical marijuana patients and caregivers to network, share information and stories, and provide mutual support--you are not alone!
  • If you are a patient or caregiver, or know a patient or caregiver, who would be interested in meeting other patients, please contact RIPAC here!
Have a healthy day,
