RIPAC OFFERS PRESENTATIONS: MARIJUANA AS LEGAL MEDICINE

1. RI SENATE MEDICAL MARIJUANA BILL WILL BE HEARD IN HHS 3/28
  • This Wednesday, March 28, around 4:15pm, the Senate Committee on Health and Human Services will hold a public hearing on the Medical Marijuana Act at the State House in Room 212.  By attending, you can support the patients who will testify!
  • The Senate version of the Medical Marijuana Act, S791, was introduced on March 1 by Senator Rhoda Perry, who is the Chairperson of the Health and Human Services committee.
2. RI HOUSE MEDICAL MARIJUANA BILL SUCCEEDS IN HEW COMMITTEE
  • On March 21, the House of Representatives Committee on Health, Education, and Welfare held a public hearing on the Medical Marijuana Act.  The Committee heard testimony from 10 speakers in favor, including 5 patients, and received press coverage!
  • The House version of the Medical Marijuana Act, H6005, was introduced on March 1 by Rep. Thomas Slater, who signed up 52 co-sponsors for the bill -- out of 75 total Representatives!
3. NEW MEXICO TO BECOME 12th MEDICAL MARIJUANA STATE
  • The House and Senate of the state of New Mexico have now both passed medical marijuana bills this session, thanks to pressure from Governor Bill Richardson, who has promised to sign the legislation into law!
  • For more information, visit the Drug Policy Alliance, who have been working on this issue in New Mexico for several years.  
4. PATIENT/CAREGIVER AFFINITY GROUP
  • RIPAC regularly hosts a group of medical marijuana patients and caregivers to network, share information and stories, and provide mutual support--you are not alone!

5. RIPAC OFFERS PRESENTATIONS: MARIJUANA AS LEGAL MEDICINE
  • On March 8, RIPAC staff gave a successful public presentation at the Riverside Knights of Columbus Hall about the science and legal status of medical marijuana.
