1. NEW PAIN RESEARCH: MEDIUM DOSE OF MARIJUANA IS BEST
  • A new study has found that while 2%-THC (weak) marijuana does not relieve pain, and 4%-THC (medium-potency) marijuana does effectively relieve pain, 8%-THC (strong) marijuana can actually increase pain.
  • This research, from the University of California at San Diego's Center for Medical Cannabis Research, will be published in the journal Anesthesiology; read more at MedPageToday and Americans for Safe Access.
2. RIPAC PARTNERS HOSTING EVENTS IN NOVEMBER
  • At the Red Ribbon Dinner on 11/30, AIDS Project RI will honor Sen. Rhoda Perry & Rep. Tom Slater for sponsoring the Medical Marijuana Act!  Visit AIDSprojectRI.org for schedule and tickets!
  • RIPAC sponsored AIDS Project RI's October edition of Gay Bingo. It was lots of fun, so you should definitely check out their next Gay Bingo Night at 7pm on 11/15.
  • On November 6, at 5:30pm, Senior Agenda Coalition is having a party: "Rock Your Future" will celebrate two milestones for Senior Agenda Coalition, their fifth birthday and the release of "Senior Agenda 2007-2008 Factbook: A Profile of Well-Being of Older Rhode Islanders." See SeniorAgendaRI.org for tix & more info.
3. CHECK OUT NEW CONTENT AT WWW.RIPATIENTS.ORG
  • Our new Legal FAQ section answers frequently asked questions about the Medical Marijuana Act and patients' rights in our state, and provides briefs for attorneys defending patients.
  • Our Tips for Patients page has been updated with a new Grow Guide to help patients provide their own medicine.
  • Our Medical Info section has a new page highlighting research on medical marijuana and Epilepsy & Seizures.
4. RIPAC AT 2007 NORML CONFERENCE IN LOS ANGELES
  • NORML invited RIPAC Executive Director Jesse Stout to represent Rhode Island at the 2007 NORML Conference in L.A. by giving a speech to its audience of hundreds! Here's a picture.
  • This trip also provided a great chance for RIPAC to show Rhode Island patients' solidarity with medical marijuana patients around the country at this huge Americans for Safe Access rally 10/11/07 at Governor Schwarzenegger's office. The first video here chronicles the rally (Jesse's in a green t-shirt a few feet behind the podium).
5. NEXT COMMUNITY MEETING AND CARDHOLDER MEETING
  • RIPAC's next medical marijuana Community Meeting for patients, caregivers, advocates, and anyone else interested in learning more will be 7pm, Tuesday, November 13. Contact RIPAC for more information.
